Quick Definition
The total value of all the common stock issued by a company.
Explanation of Common Stock Value
Also called the Value of Common Stock, or the Common Stock Account and listed on the Balance Sheet, the Common Stock Value is the estimation of the total value of the common stock shares outstanding. The Value of the Common Stock is often calculated by taking the stated or par value of the stock times the number of common stock shares outstanding.
Importance of Common Stock Value
The Common Stock Value will often stay relatively the same, unless the company issues more shares of common stock or actually buys back some of its stock. Note that the Common Stock Value is separate from any common stock dividend amounts.
